We work closely with our rugby partners to try and ensure that opportunities exist across Angus and beyond for increased participation in rugby whilst supporting players, coaches and clubs to develop and reach their potential.

New Foundation/Referee Course

This course is suitable for those wishing to coach/referee mini (inc. Touch Variations) and Tag Rugby up to Primary 7 age. The course focuses on player safety and training/game preparation as well as the basic skills required to play rugby such as running, handling, support, communication and tackling (mini).

It also introduces the lineout, scrum and ruck and looks at the 'Game Sense' approach to coaching. As well as looking at the coaching side of the game, all participants at the end of the course will have an understanding of the principles of refereeing/game coaching!

Rugby Development - Youth Coaching Course

The Scottish Rugby Youth Coaching Course is an entry level award aimed at 15-18 year old boys and girls who have an interest in coaching Rugby Union. The course provides young people with the skills and confidence to start coaching at their local club or school.

The course covers the following topics:

Roles of Coaching, Planning a Coaching Session, Good Practice, Creating a Professional Image, Coaching Practical

Level 1 Refereeing Course

This course is for those who wish to referee for their school, club or referee society. You do not need to have completed a Foundation Course to do this course.

The Level 1 course is approximately 6 hours in total followed by a practical assessment when the candidate is ready. The course is free but should you wish to referee for your local referee society, you will be asked to pay the annual subscription. All attendees will receive a Law Book, Law Variation Cards and course handouts.

Having passed the exam and practical assessment, a Level 1 Referee Licence is awarded and you are qualified to referee up to and including Regional League 2, schools, youth, Mini Rugby, Tag and New Image. The licence is valid for the remainder of the season in which you passed the course and a further 2 full seasons.

Rugby Development - UKCC Rugby Union Coaching Courses

UKCC Rugby Union Coaching Courses in Coaching Rugby Union (L1CCRU) have been developed in conjunction with the English & Welsh Rugby Unions, together with the SQA and 1st4sport Qualifications.

This is a vocationally related qualification studying both practical and theoretical aspects of coaching rugby union. Currently there are 3 levels to the UKCC coaching courses.
