Junior coaching, family swims and festive outdoor fun returns to sparkle this December
Angus may have been placed into Tier 3 of Scotland’s five-tier coronavirus restrictions system, but ANGUSalive is excited to have some COVID-secure activities return just in time for the festive season.
This week sees the return of junior coached classes, including football, gymnastics and trampoline, as well as racquet sports at ANGUSalive’s sports centres and community campuses. Unfortunately adult group exercise classes are prohibited within current restrictions. Junior coaching is resuming for under 16 year olds, with a larger junior coaching programme hoping to restart in the new year. Bookings for racquet sports are restricted to singles or household doubles at present.
Family Swim and Splash Back swimming lessons will be making a return next week (from Tuesday 1 December) at Arbroath and Montrose Sports Centres and Brechin and Forfar Community Campuses. Families will be allocated an individual area of the pool to enjoy and are asked to bring their own floats and toys for their safety.
Splash Back swimming lessons are available for children who were attending Level 1-8 prior to lockdown. It’s a great way for children to get back into the pool following the period of closure.
In addition the popular Festive Fun activities at Monikie Country Park will also be making a return, all of which takes place in the great outdoors. This year’s event is scaled down in comparison to previous years, but there are still activities for both kids and grown-ups to enjoy.
Colin Knight, Senior Manager for Sport & Leisure at ANGUSalive added: “We are operating in challenging times but we are delighted to be able to resume some of our popular activities for children and families as well as add some festive cheer with Christmas activities.
“We are in no doubt that people are finding the current situation really tough and we know the important role our services play in helping the health and wellbeing of people of all ages. Although we’ve had public lane swimming available for some time, we’re now pleased to offer Splash Back lessons and family swim sessions which we know our members and customers were keen for us to do.
“Sadly our festive activities are scaled down compared to last year with the additional absence of our annual pantomime at Webster Memorial Theatre. However, we hope our festive trails, Christmas wreaths and wooden reindeer at Monikie Country Park can help add a bit of fun and sparkle to this December.”
Starting from Tuesday 1 December 2020, there will be three festive trails at Monikie Country Park – Santa’s Reindeer, Elves and Baubles. Puzzles will also be available on the ANGUSalive website for people to complete as they explore the trails, these may be printed at home before visiting. The trails will be available seven days a week, between 9am and 4pm and are free of charge.
Craft kits are available to purchase featuring a handmade base and materials for budding artists to craft their own Christmas wreath with local, natural and sustainable products. Assembled wooden reindeer are available for people to customise at home and create their own Rudolph the Reindeer. Wreath kits and reindeer can be purchased via the ANGUSalive website and collected from Monikie Country Park at the allocated time and date on tickets from December 1 2020. Due to Covid-19 Santa’s Grotto and the festive workshops will be unavailable this year, as will the popular Santa Run at Monikie Country Park. However residents are invited to take part in a virtual 5K fun run with ANGUSalive and help the charity celebrate turning five.
All of these activities take place in COVID-secure environments where extra safety precautions are in place to ensure everyone’s wellbeing.
