24 Sep 2020 | News Story

ANGUSalive is pleased to offer a great selection of activities for all interests at our Country Parks and Sports Centres to keep school children entertained this October holiday. All activities take place in a safe, supervised, open air environment.

For adventurous 5 - 12-year-old’s, Crombie Country Park and Forfar Loch offers Explorer activities, where inquisitive kids can explore the varied wildlife and habitat of these locations with our Countryside Ranger.

The Hedgehog Hotel workshop at Monikie Country Park is ideal for creative 5-12 year old’s, where our Ranger will give a demonstration on how to create a hedgehog winter home from logs and participants can take a kit away to erect at home, which will hopefully encourage wildlife to your garden this winter. Our Ranger will also be on hand to advise on best location etc and share further advice on best practice to encourage hedgehogs into your garden.

For water confident 8-15 year old’s, Monikie Country Park presents Paddle to Pedal, two-hourly sessions with a variety of fun activities including Mountain Biking and Canadian Canoeing.

Our Family Bike Bubble Sessions have been a great success at Monikie Country Park over the last couple of months and we are delighted to be able to continue these over the October Holidays. Our aim is for everyone to access cycling in a safe environment, ensuring everyone can enjoy the physical and mental benefits of cycling.

There are a range of bikes available for children and adults from two-wheeler balance bikes, mountain bikes, a wheelchair bike, tandems, side by side bikes, trikes, hand bikes and a recumbent. The bikes will be sprayed with antibacterial spray before and after each use and hand sanitiser/ wipes will also be available to use.

If you like a bit of golf, take this chance to Tri-Golf at Arbroath and Montrose Sports Centre or play Football with SFA qualified Coaches at Brechin or Forfar Community Campus.

Tri-Golf is a fun, energetic version of golf which young children can enjoy with their friends as they hit the target with their first golf shots. Tri-Golf is genuinely inclusive as it suits all abilities; every child can succeed in the games and with the flexibility between individual play and team interaction, it engages well with youngsters who might not want to play a traditional team sport. Tri-Golf promotes ‘Skills for Life’ attributes including co-operation, good sportsmanship and concentration.

Lastly if you fancy getting into the Halloween spirit, our Witches and Wizards Wand Workshops enable you to make your very own wand. Choose your piece of wood and make something magical.

These are outdoor activities and participants should come prepared for all weather situations.
