Discovering Ancient Egypt

Bringing together fascinating objects and hidden stories from the collections of National Museums Scotland and Montrose Museum, this exhibition uncovers how ancient Egypt captivated Scotland over 200 years ago, as it still does today.

Discovering Ancient Egypt is a National Museums Scotland touring exhibition. It is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund as well as the Weston Loan Programme with Art Fund.

Craft Like An Egyptian | 17 July 2019

Join us at Montrose Museum to make some fun Ancient Egyptian inspired crafts! We will be making pyramids, headdresses and amulets so you have everything you need to turn yourself into a Pharaoh.

Guided Lunchtime Tour of Ancient Egyptian Displays | 23 July 2019

Join Montrose Museum staff for a tour of our Ancient Egyptian displays. We will be looking at Montrose Museum’s collection of Ancient Egyptian treasures and discussing how they arrived here, as well as looking at National Museums Scotland’s ‘Discovering Ancient Egypt’ exhibition.

Evening Talk by Dr. Daniel Potter | 22 August 2019

Dr Dan Potter from the National Museums Scotland will speak on the Egyptian collections held in Scottish museums. Ancient Egyptian objects can be found in museums across Scotland; from the Borders to Orkney and everywhere in between.

These amazing objects hold both the stories of the Egyptians who made and used them, as well as the Scottish travellers, archaeologists, scientists and artists who collected them.
