ANGUSalive Sport Membership Changes

Published: Friday 8 December 2017. Updated 10 January 2018.

ANGUSalive is the culture, sport and leisure trust for the county of Angus and we have been operating since December 2015. As a charity we manage and operate sports centres, country parks, theatres and venues, museums, galleries, archives and libraries across the county, services previously delivered by the local authority Angus Council.

We are a not-for-profit organisation running a commercial operation; which means that every penny we make is reinvested back into the services we deliver. We are registered with OSCR (Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator), Scottish Charity number SC046133, and have developed our strategic aims to help us achieve our vision of 'changing lives by inspiring healthy, active and creative lifestyle choices'. One of our strategic aims is to 'deliver best value and create investment opportunities' and 'encourage participation for all'. Evidence of this in our first full year of operation (1 April 2016 - 31 March 2017) has been the changes we have made to our charging structure and pricing policy which we reviewed and standardised across our business. Substantiation of our aim to help encourage participation for all includes; providing free access to young carers, discounted access to registered carers and operating buddy schemes for customers who require assistance when using our sports centres.

This year, we made the decision to adopt a single integrated system across our operations in order to provide a modern customer experience to complement on site customer services, whilst providing complete online functionality and as part of this we have reviewed our membership offering. The new system will be rolled out from December 2017 with online available from early 2018 and the first notable changes for customers will be the ability to make contactless payments at site.

We have taken the opportunity presented by the introduction of the new system to review our bACTIVE sports memberships. We wrote to all bACTIVE members on Friday 1 December to provide all members with details of the changes as outlined below.

The changes are effective from 13 December 2017 and there will also be changes to our family membership from 1 January 2018. The changes to Sports hall/pitch use for sports such as 5-a-side, 7-a-side, basketball, bring us in line with the charging structures of other charitable trusts in Scotland.

Membership Changes

Sports hall/pitch use for sports such as 5-a-side, 7-a-side, basketball, etc. will no longer be included in the bACTIVE membership; standard area charges will apply from 13 December 2017 to all playing members*. Please note, club bookings will not be affected in these membership changes.

Flexible family membership is changing to provide a more flexible offering so our customers now only pay per child according to who they want to add to a membership. This enables families to select the option that is best for their needs which may be a mixture of a family membership for some people and pay-as-you-go for less frequent users.

The new flexible family bACTIVE membership changes takes effect from 1 January 2018 and customers should get in contact as soon as possible in order to make any changes to the number of adults and/or children included on their family membership.

We are here to help guide our customers to select the best membership option for them from a wide choice of great value and discounted memberships and we encourage customers to let us help them to find the one that's right for them either by asking a member of staff at their local sports centre or calling our head office membership team on 01307 473850. Customers can also email us membership@angusalive.scot

bACTIVE Value - members enjoy unlimited access to the majority of our activities such as coached classes, fitness/ health suites, pool facilities, etc. across all 7 of our sports centres and can use their membership to book up to 7 days in advance for their favourite class. Additional benefits of being a bACTIVE member include discounts for holiday camp sessions, personal training and 1-2-1 swimming lessons as well as free car parking at ANGUSalive Countryside Adventure's Monikie and Crombie Country Parks and during April - September free water sports hire at Monikie Country Park.

Kirsty Hunter, ANGUSalive Chief Executive commented:

"As a charitable trust, we are part of a network of leisure and culture trusts across Scotland and the UK. The trust model enables us to improve efficiency and develop greater opportunity whilst, and most critically, ensuring all income is invested straight back in to our communities. As part of this ambition to be more business-like and engage with our customers differently, we are introducing a new integrated system across our services which will soon enable customers of culture, sport and leisure facilities to book online for activities and it will also allow our bACTIVE members to manage their account online from early January 2018."

bACTIVE membership comment - as sent to press, 10 January 2018

ANGUSalive operates 7 sports centres/ campuses and 2 High School Pools, (see www.angusalive.scot/sportscentres) across Angus which provide a range of facilities including swimming pools, modern fitness suites and an extensive range of classes to suit all ages and fitness levels. We welcome anyone living, working or visiting the county to use our facilities and there are a variety of options available for our customers to access our sports centres. This includes paying as they go for their activity (bACTIVE Lite) or taking out one of our bACTIVE memberships, depending on their needs. For 2018, our new flexible family bACTIVE membership enables members to alter the number of adults and/or children included on their family membership according to their family makeup and usage patterns.

Throughout the year, as our members review their usage of our facilities, personal priorities and our membership offers as described above, we will welcome new members, welcome back previous members and sometimes this will mean we also say goodbye to current members as customers evaluate how they access our facilities and activities. ANGUSalive's bACTIVE membership offers excellent value and currently includes access to the majority of our activities such as coached classes, fitness/ health suites, pool facilities, etc. across all of our sports centres and members can book onto their favourite class up to 7 days in advance. We have also recently introduced discounted holiday camps for our junior bACTIVE members.

ANGUSalive is a not-for-profit organisation which means that every penny we make is reinvested back into the services we deliver. We raise money from various sources including a management fee, grants and contributions and charges from our activities, events and bACTIVE memberships. You can read more about our charitable trust and our income and expenditure in our annual report for our first four months of operation, 1 December 2015 - 31 March 2016, here: www.angusalive.scot/annualreport. The annual report covering our first full year of operation, 1 April 2016 - 31 March 2017, will be available online later this month.

We are here to help guide our customers to select the best membership option for them, from a wide choice of great value and discounted memberships as well as pay-as-you-go options.
